Libraries have embraced their role as community and economic development hubs, and we love to collect anecdotes that show our role in launching and boosting everything local. But where does our money go? The Libraries Buy Local Initiative teaches administrators and support staff how to use their library’s purchasing power to make a local impact. Sarah Cornell and Steve Butzel developed the Libraries Buy Local Initiative to share a process for analyzing spending, setting goals, and carrying out changes without adversely affecting workflows or morale. They invite colleagues to test the process and spread the word about one more way that libraries build community.
